Floating Wind Specialist

Blackfish Engineering Design is a growing renewable energy consultancy with a history of projects in wind, wave and tidal energy generation. Blackfish are looking to recruit an innovative and creative addition to our dynamic floating wind team.

Requirements:

  • More than 5yrs experience
  • BEng, MEng or equivalent in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or similar subject
  • Experience modelling of offshore floating structures (Orcaflex, OrcaWave/AQWA)
  • Experience in the Floating Offshore Wind industry
  • Established profile within the offshore wind sector
  • Structural Design experience
  • 3D CAD skills (preferably Autodesk Inventor)
  • Excellent communication and team building skills
  • Proactive personality

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • Previous consultancy experience
  • Experience in writing proposals, client liaison and business development
  • Have Chartered Engineer status

About the role:

Our projects are very diverse and can last from a few weeks to many years of sustained support. You will typically be involved with multiple projects at any one time. You will meet and communicate with customers to understand their requirements and develop your project plan to deliver the desired outcomes and insights. The work will be varied encompassing a wide range of engineering projects including offshore wind, wave and tidal energy, design of innovative vessels and maritime tooling. You will be responsible for:

  • Providing consultancy and advisory services on the technical and commercial aspects of the floating offshore wind sector
  • Delivering high quality technical analysis of designs and operational performance
  • Managing projects in accordance with Blackfish processes and acting as technical lead
  • Working with colleagues within and outside your disciplines to deliver multidisciplinary projects
  • Authoring and verifying technical deliverables
  • Liaising with customers to understand requirements and provide innovative solutions
  • Supporting the development of concept designs, tools and processes through Research & Development to enhance our capability
  • Helping shape our service development plans and strategies to maximise the value we provide to the global market
  • Developing new business by representing Blackfish at conferences, seminars and prospective client meetings
  • Responding to enquiries and writing bids

The successful applicant will be affiliated with our Bristol office but will work remotely from home during the current Covid-19 situation and with flexible arrangements thereafter.
