Southampton University now have two test rigs designed and built by Blackfish: a towing tank mooring platform and a pipe flow rig.

The towing tank platform is 6m x 2m, and using hydraulics can raise from 0.25m to 4m in height in the tank. Blackfish completed the entire concept design, detailed design, structural analysis, and manufacture, as well as transporting it to Southampton to install and commission it ourselves.

We have also designed, manufactured and installed a pipe flow rig that enables researchers to assess flow regimes in a small cross section, allowing them to measure the effects of roughness and blockage in free flowing channels (such as rivers). This system was manufactured mainly in polypropylene and integrated with a pump, separation tank, filter, cooler and various sensors and instrumentation.
